Electrical Safety Inspection

An illustrative example of inspecting a domestic electrical installation, recording the findings and explaining the recommended next steps.

EICR (Electrical Safety Inspection): a complete guide for St Pauls homeowners

This illustrative example explores an electrical safety inspection for a domestic property. It considers an owner who wants a clearer understanding of the fixed electrical installation and any matters requiring attention.

Before the appointment, the property details, available electrical records and known concerns would be reviewed. The inspection scope, access arrangements and any expected interruption to the electrical supply would be agreed.

The assessment would involve inspecting accessible parts of the fixed installation and carrying out appropriate electrical testing. Within the agreed scope, this may include wiring, circuits, fixed accessories, the consumer unit, earthing, bonding and protective devices.

Findings would be recorded in an Electrical Installation Condition Report, commonly known as an EICR. The report would explain the observations, relevant classifications, overall assessment and any inspection limitations. No particular findings or report outcome are assumed in this example.

The handover would help the property owner understand the findings and priorities. Where further investigation or remedial work was recommended, its scope and price would be discussed separately. An inspection does not automatically include repairs or replacement equipment.

Spark’s Electrical Safety Inspections start from £150. The final price depends on the property type, size, installation and agreed inspection scope. This is an indicative service price rather than a completed-project cost.
